It’s not quite a ghost, nor is it sorcery or a trick of the eye, an owl really did leave its impression on this window pane. Unfortunately, it came at a price of some serious face-smashing discomfort.
According to the scientists from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, this freaky image was left by the owl’s “powder down“, a dust that covers and protects growing feathers:
We don’t very often see an imprint of a bird that’s flown into a window that’s this clear and where it’s pretty obvious exactly what kind of bird it is. This would have been very uncomfortable for the bird but thankfully it looks like it survived…many birds aren’t so lucky.
Of course, covering a ghost in powder and having it run into something would be exactly what you would do to capture its impression…
