Though he is mainly known for blowing stuff up on TV, Adam Savage is a serious skeptic, atheist, and freethinker in the scientific community. His short and engaging speech at the Reason Rally in Washington D.C. last week (a gathering of over 20,000 supporters of science and critical thinking) was right on the money: you can live a fulfilled life without superstition (at least that’s what I took away from it). Savage is in a great position to be an effective science communicator, and I am happy that he supports reason above all else. Shouldn’t you?

just the facts, man…
:)
Great conclusion to a great speech.
I would simply title this speech “An Ode to Human Greatness”
(Too bad he unreasonably believes in the official 9/11 conspiracy. Notice that even his crowd didn’t cheer very loudly at that point?)
“Facts are true whether or not you believe them.” That is a VERY powerful and encompassing statement, with ramifications that are hard for us to fully comprehend.
Overall I like him because I believe he has a good heart.
I think the crowd did not want to cheer for people being killed on 9/11, which of course is a social convention and has nothing to do with supporting the conspiracy.
The skeptical community largely does not buy into the 9/11 conspiracy theories because there is no good evidence for them that is not better explained by the official account.
It occurred to me that perhaps you’ve never witnessed a presentation of the facts supporting the 9/11 truth social justice movement. Here’s a recent presentation in my home town of Toronto. Curious what your thoughts are on the scientific method used to reach a conclusion, after you watch it.
Ah darn — then I guess the self-proclaimed skeptics must simply be right. There must not be any good 9/11 Truth evidence. Those official government reports must be rock solid science and reason. As it turns out, all those “truthers” are really wacked out and quite dangerous!
